Okay, so the answer is 'Yes'; German WW II U-boat could start a MAN diesel without electricity. Steve

In the movie U 571 (and I know how it is reviewed) the USN crew start a diesel engine after the U-boat's batteries are totally depleted. If it were the case could a German WW II submarine start a diesel with no electrical power available? Take care. Steve

A bit off topic. Is anyone aware of first hand accounts of the Bismarck's crew's reaction upon the Hood's rapid sinking? Peace vS

Thank you! It will take some time to go through that boat's diary (I'm not even sure if this incident would have logged). Thank you very much Thorsten! mike

Friends, Has there been any progress regarding the theft of Topp's certificates and dagger? Do they know who the visitor was when he (Topp) was called away to the phone? Is it still an 'open' case? vS

Friends, In Volume #10 of U-BOOT IM FOCUS and on page #45 it states that U 376 "On 16 November the stern tube with torpedo was torn off by heavy seas." This was during her fifth patrol. Simply, how could an entire loaded torpedo tube be ripped off a boat? steve

Thanks Maciek, In my opinion, based on what a relative told me about WWII and my Dad about Korea, the reply should be the same (verbatim) as the order; only with an 'Aye' or 'Understood' as a preface. Take Care and Happy Holidays to All, vS

No apologies needed, Although not known at the time a meeting of a U Boat crew was the best option (regarding the Axis military) that could happen to a village. However, no boat captain would allow the above to happen. Plus, an open torpedo tube was both visually and electronically obvious. Like walking to your car and not noticing its hood is open. Take care. vS

Greetings, Although we'll give you the benefit of doubt.... I'll answer with a question. Would you allow a stranger perform life necessary brain surgery to your child while an experienced Neurological Surgeon, with a clean staffed OR, lived in your house? vS

As an aside, I have a Great Uncle who is also 92. He emigrated to the USA; got drafted; had to fight his own; was disowned by his European Family; the ship that landed him in Africa was torpedoed after his group disembarked; the stern only did return... I grew up five blocks from him and sat at his table at least three days a week since I was four years old. He will not make it to 93. He was,

Ken, I thought so. My research capabilities are weak so I thought I'd throw it out for the brighter than me to comment. My thesis was on the Muntiny on the Bounty and learned from primary sources that, truly, 'News is the same; only names change'. Thanks very much. I lost family on both sides. All they wanted was for it to end. Peace, Steve vS

Please, forgive my ignorence but how did they listen after 1943? Also., why can't it be seen. Also, the U 505; I've been aboard her over dozen times. Where is her hyrdopone?

On some photos you see the hydrophone 'mast' extended on others it is no where to be seen. Was it always up or only raised when divded? U 505, on display, does not show it raised. vS
