Revell U-505

I'm building an old Revell U-505 model, and find that what is in the kit is a Type VIIC, most likely, but definitely not a Type IXC, which was U-505. Has anyone else noticed this, or is the kit that old? This seems a little strange seeing as U-505 is sitting in Chicago. I'm modifying the kit to U-995. This is my first U-Boat model, having built mainly aircraft for many years.
