Hi Don.

Sorry for the slow response, but I did not see your post until today. I have not been to Pearl Harbor. I believe they have the Type A Midget Ha-19 on display there. They may well have other things, perhaps a Kaiten or Kairyu. The Type A is, of course, not a suicide boat, but instead had two small torpedoes (modified aerial torpedoes) to launch at targets. Japan also built manned torpedoes (Kaiten), and the Kairyu midget submarines that carried either 2 torpedoes or, more often, a warhead for suicide attacks. Only the Type A was used at Pearl Harbor, of course. About how large was the vessel you saw? Did it have two protrusions at the front? The Type A had two 45cm torpedoes, one over the other, sticking out of the bow. I prepared some web pages for Nihon Kaigun on these midgets, but they are not posted up there yet.
