U boat attack methods and details

Hi

I hope some of you guys can help, firstly I'm no expert on U-boats! I do have a general interest though and may I add that this site is fantastic.

Presently I am writting a fictional book and a large part of the story is describing a U-boat Woolfpack mission in the North Atlantic, Although the book is fictional I would like to get as much of the details correct, so there are a few questions I would like to ask, so here goes, the simple ones first.

What was the conning tower called, would it be wrong to refere to it as that and what was the German name for it?

What was the deck/observation platform known as above the conning tower, in German as well?

What were the guys called who steered the boat, maybe Helmsmen? Oh yes in German as well?

Has anyone got a written account of a U-boat attack ie what happened from the perspective of the U-boat ie the crew, was it full speed ahead, action stations, all hands to the pumps, or was it a pretty calm affair?

Really any information would help.... Thanks for a great website its been so much help so far.
