Query aerial

On a photograph of a U-boat being unloaded one sees what appears to be a double-sided wire mesh net, able to stand without support, about 14 feet long and three feet deep. The suggestion is of an experimental aerial which combined in some way with the winter-garden rails.

In order to discount the aerial theory, I should be grateful if any contributor knows of another purpose for such a net aboard a Type VII.
