Good evening Mr. Foxwell, I just came across this site and was reviewing it.When I read the one thread I was interested as I am friends with two Bluefish222 sailors who were aboard the day this happened and they have told it to me. I am president of the Bluefish Association 675/222. Our next reunion is in St.Louis on May 1.2008. In their account the aft ballast tank vent did not open on an emergency dive to avoid the attacking plane. This caused the bow to go straight down with the stern sticking up in the air like a spar buoy. Propellers still spinning. The older one was able to climb up the vertical equiptment and open the vent manually only after the plane had dropped two bombs which straddled the boat but missed. They must have thought they sunk it and did not come back with another pass. This also happened on their final patrol of the war. #9. One of the crewmembers does e-mail and I will refer this site to him. I am prohibited from divulging any name or e-mail addresses of our membership without their permission.
