I have read that 23,358 LCVPs were built but I have never found individual names.

I have seen photographs of LCVPs with numbers such as PA26-24, I know that this is LCVP number 24 carried on board APA26 (Samuel Chase) but surely PA26-24 just a pennant number and not the name of the LCVP

I know that 26 LCVPs were lost on Utah beach on D-Day and 55 on Omaha beach. Suppose PA26-24 was one of them. Would the USS Samuel Chase get another LCVP to replace the one lost and would it be called LCVP26-24 (ii) or would it have had a totally new number?

The book Soviet Warships Of The Second World War by Jurg Meister says that two LCV(P)s were transferred to the Soviet Artic fleet in 1944 under the lend/lease agreement and says that these were LCV(P) 42116 and LCV(P) 42737

Are these the identities of these LCVPs? Obviously if 23,358 were built then they were not consecutively numbers from one upwards!

Does anyone know a good source of information about LCVPs and other minor landing craft types other than official US Naval Records? Or does anyone have a copy of official US Naval records

I know that the Royal Navy also received American built LCVPs

I know this is a big subject area in terms of the number of craft involved but any help would be appreciated.
