Hi, Juliet--
The A-class destroyers had additional searchlights fitted to their upper bridge structures, 1939-onward. These were on small sponsons (outcroppings) on either side, near the aft end of the bridge structures. They were considerably smaller than the main searchlight further aft, but their positions would have enabled forward illumination, except for an area immediately ahead of the ship.
