The KARNAK was completed as the 6,344-ton passenger ship ANNAM, by Messageries Maritimes, La Ciotat as yard No.77 in September 1899 for Messageries Maritimes, Marseille. (Work commenced on the keel in 1889). She was powered by two triple expansion steam engines that gave 19-knots (twin props) and had dimensions of 446.2 x 50.9
In 1904 she was renamed TOURANE by the same owners.
In 1912 renamed KARNAK by the same owners.
Torpedoed and sunk by U 32 on 27 November 1916, 60 miles SE of Malta, while voyaging from Marseille & Valetta to Salonica.
