Hello Oliver,

Yes, that was my first thought after I started going through the records and it became clear that no U-Boats were sunk or operational (I am an absolute beginner, so please excuse any mistakes!).

I checked British naval records and there are no sinkings of a British sub in that area. Also there are no details of a French sub being sunk.

I have no doubt that shots were fired, but these were fired at quite a long distance and I think that the gunners had no idea what they were maybe firing at or how they could tell whether a sub was sunk. They were probably looking at a distance of 4-5 kms.

Were there any other German submarines operational in that area? I was thinking of U64 or U65.
