<HTML>Dear Rainer The story was sure believable in 1943 & 1944 when merchant ships were being towed in with big holes in them or ends missing but looking back 50 years, high sea shrimp purchases would have been very brazen in 1940. Thanks DG

Hi Don,
I do not think, I am going out on a limb here stating it is a nice story, but only a story. I do not believe there was an operational neccessity or directive for a German Uboat to be in the northwestern corner of the Gulf in 1940. Remember operation drumbeat was early \\\'42. Before that uboats were directed to other target areas to avoid conflicts with American forces and shipping. Rgds, RB</HTML>
