<HTML>Hardegen was a brave commander. Illness and all considered.

Lueth had massive tonnage, and the most number of ships.

Kretschmer was VERY skillfull, and topped the tonnage list very early.

But my own favorite commander of WWII is Erich Topp. Nearly 200,000 tons sunk. KC with OL and S. Third highest ace of the war. Topp sunk the USS Reuben James before the US was at war (actually USA\'s fault for being where it shouldn\'t have been)--and he feels regret, although this was in NO way his fault.

I personally feel Konteradmiral Topp was THE ace of WWII. He was an ace and he also demonstrated a gentlemanly attitude.

Other nominations and reasons????
