<HTML>Frank,

I spot the problem here - I think we were thinking about different ships. There were two U.S. aircraft carriers named Lexington. The first, which was commissioned in 1927 was based in the Pacific and sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942. She would have been in the Pacific through almost all of the period before the U.S.\'s entry into WWII. When I stated that an attack on the Lexington was implausible, this was the ship I was referring to.

A second USS Lexington was commissioned on February 7, 1943 (no bonus points for guessing what sunken earlier ship she was named for...). She was built in Quincy, Mass. and didn\'t arrive at Pearl Harbor until August 9, 1943. This may be the ship you are thining of.</HTML>
