Alternative surrender options

<HTML>It universally known that German Officers and Commanders obey orders and were tremendously loyal (they had to be, otherwise the Gestapo could take very unpleasant discouraging measures to them and or to their relatives…) but for sure they were also not naive. From the Allied standpoint, the U-boat skippers were the most hated, feared and chased personnel of the whole German Navy. My question is: why the German skippers did not ran aground their boats on Irish (or Iberian) coasts when the order of surrender came? (Captain Feheler in «Dynamite for hire” marginally discusses this topic.) The treatment they received after the armistice was usually unfair.
Greetings
