<HTML>Einar,
Two things that conning tower watches were taught about holding binoculars in order to keep their arms from tiring:
1) Do not grip the binoculars, but rather hold your hands flat against the sides of them. This keeps your fingers from tiring and cramping.
2) Keep your arms bent up against your body so as not to tire them out.
Another thing they were taught was to switch back and forth between using the binoculars and the naked eye at regular intervals. This keeps your eyes from tiring as well.
If memory serves me correctly, Michael Gannon in \"Operation Drumbeat\" mentions these things in one of the first chapters. He also explains it very well, since after rereading my answer it might be a bit unclear. Also, check out photos of the watch and notice the how the men are holding them.
All the Best...Jeff</HTML>
