<HTML>It is possible the idea was floated (pardon the pun) but it probably never got beyond paper. I know the idea of towing a V-2 in a \"launch tube\" to within range of the United States, behind a U-boat was proposed. I don\'t know if this got past the dream stage. The Japanese were big on sub-aircraft carriers. Early in the war (1942?) they did make several air raids, dropping incindiaries in the woods of Washington, Oregon area. (Somebody forgot them to try it during the dry season, not the rainy season. Oops!) And they did have the hardware for a massive attack on the Panama Canal by 44, but were unable to bring the plan to fruition. I know the U-boats did experiment with a towed gyrocopter for spotting work. Was used in the South Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Was rejected because of the fact that if the boat encountered a warship while the thing was deployed, the pilot was in a VERY bad spot. tjk</HTML>
