<HTML>Some of us have read the rules, some not. Although I would disagree that ALL \"what if/alternate history\" discussions are off topic, out of hand. As close as many fazes of WWII were, I think some discussion of possibilities is not out of line. Many serious documentaries discuss evidense of things that almost occured--like last night a History Channel doc. talked about at least 2 cases were there was some evidence Stalin may have seriously been considering making some sort of peace with Germany, to avoid the loss of all of Russia. Not to say Germany would have accepted some sort of cease fire, but interesting questions are raised here. \"U-boat War\" 3-part doc. has an interview with Joan Sumner, WRAF, who worked in Western Approaches, and talked about an officer who came in one day around the end of \'42, and said, \"We\'ve lost it.\" -- More comments about there was only enough fuel for two or three weeks for the whole of the country, and with aircraft and shipping losses, there was no way Britain could win the war, etc. Churchill himself admitted his biggest fear all along had been the U-boat war.

Discussions like this are worth talking about, with the ramifications all too clear. But to get too carried away in completely hypothetical discussions...well, there\'s no point.

Like to go on and say, well if England had to get out of the war, the US would not have ever entered, and if the Germans developed the A-bomb in \'42, Russia would have....blah blah blah. This is where \"what if/alternate history\" has little purpose...
