Hi Jim,in U.S. Merchant Vessel War Casulties of WW II by Robert M. Browning, the entry Re EBB it states that the Ebb had sailed from Boston for Western Bank (Sable Is Bank) when she was 45 miles SE of Cape Sable U 754 shelled and sank the vessel.U 754 had opened fire from just over 50 yards & the master hove to. the U-boat continued to fire with the 88mm and 20mm guns as the crew of 4 officers and 13 men abandoned ship. As a result the master and 4 men died with 7 others being wounded. the U-boat eventually fired 50 88mm shells before the ship sank. The survivors being rescued 14 hours later by HMS Witherington (I-76) and landed at Boston. - john
