My elderly aunt was aboard the SS Newfoundland in convoy OB-197 when during the evening of August 14, 1940 the ship was hit by a torpedo that failed to explode. She has recently published a family memoir that details the attack under the title "Song of the Past"by Patricia MacDougall MacLachlan.
