Probably U-676 was used as Flak escort in a convoy because the U-boat was fitted with good AA guns and attacking planes would take a freighter as target and not the smaller U-boat (harder to hit) and because the lack of AA equipped escort ships in the Gulf of Finland.
It is possible that U-676 had shot down those two planes but this is not easy to establish. The KTB of U-676 would be very helpful (is it aviable?). But to take a look in Soviet sources is almost impossible for the most of us.
