<HTML>Hi!

U-639 was returning from the mouth of the river Ob\' in West Sibirea after setting mines on the night August 18, 1945.

For support of the submarines, which penetrated in Kara Sea in 1942
secret polar station was equipped in the strait Cambridge, on the coast of
island Land of Alexandra (archipelago Franz Joseph Land), which existed until May 1944.

U-boats which acted in the Kara Sea, charged the batteries, their crews rested before going out to sea was obtained last intelligence information about the situation.

Base was located in the grotto, where two U-boats simultaneously could come.
In one moorage was torpedo and mine arsenal, in another - repair shops.
From air everything looked like completely ordinary not remarkable place.
This is why aviation could not anything detect.

This station was detected ocasionaly only in summer 1952.
