KM / DKM steel

My interest is landing craft especially landing craft tank (LCT) and while researching I've found several references (including on the original drawings) to KM and DKM steel but I can't find specifications with these initials.
This steel is used for the sides and top plating but only above the waterline - MS was used below the waterline.
Original Admiralty and shipyard correspondence makes reference to D1 HT and MS and KM / DKM and BP / bullet proof material.
The fact that initials are used on the drawings suggests to me that KM / DKM was a common term at the time and needed no explanation but 70+ years later I'm struggling to find out.
Can anyone help?
