Hi Paul

I do not consider what to divide losses of the Soviet people on nationalities is a good idea. The people of all nationalities were at war and loses for the common homeland - the Soviet Union. Nevertheless there is exact numbers now .

National structure of the Soviet military losses

x1000 %
-----------------------------------
Russian 5 747,1 66,3
Ukrainians 1 376,5 15,9
Byelorussians 251,4 2,9
Tatars 188,3 2,2
Jews 138,7 1,6
Kazakhs 130,0 1,5
Uzbeks 121,4 1,4
Armenians 88,2 0,96
Georgians 79,7 0,92
Mordva 63,3 0,73
Chuvashi 63,1 0,73
Azerbaijanians 58,1 0,67
Moldavians 53,7 0,62
Balts
Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians
44,2 0,51
Bashkir 32,1 0,37
Kirghiz 26,9 0,31
Udmurts 23,4 0,27
Tadjiks 22,5 0,26
Turkmens 21,7 0,25
Mari 20,8 0,24
Komi 16,5 0,19
Buryats 13,0 0,15
Peoples of Dagestan
11,3 0,13
Osetines 10,4 0,12
other nationalities 71,1 0,82
-----------------------------------
Total 8 668,4
-----------------------------------

In total during war was lost about 28 millions of Soviet people. The losses of civilians was about 19 millions the man. The Hitler and Rosenberg planned annually to destroy of 30 millions Russian and other nationalities in USSR.

8 millions Soviet soldier have offered the life that these monstrous plans were failed.

I think, that under \"other nationalities\" first of all it is necessary to understand Soviet Germans. Many Germans served in Red Army and are veterans of WW2 now. I know some such veterans personally.

Recently on a German cemetery in Moscow I saw an inscription
\"For our Soviet Homeland you was lost on Ukraine, but we consider, that you lay in this tomb\"

Common human losses of allies:
Frances - 600 thousand
Great Britain - 375 thousand
USA - 450 thousand
Poland has lost 6 mil.,
Yugoslavia - 1,7 mil.,
China (1937-1945 ãã.) more than 20 mil.
Losses of Germany and satellites:
Germany - 13 mil. (including irrevocable military losses more than 8,3 mil.),
Italy - 500 thousand
Hungary - 600 thousand
Romania - 300 thousand
Japan - 2,5 mil.

Some people approving, that in losses of the Soviet people in an equal measure to Stalin and Hitler, Or even that the Stalin was the large murderer, than Hitler.
One business ruthless, but selective, relation to the own citizens,
Other - ideologically motivated destruction of the peoples of other countries.

In total from 1921 till a beginning of 1954 on political accusations was sentenced
to a death penalty 642.980 men,
to deprivation of freedom - 2.369.220,
to move to live in Sibiria - 765.180.

For all time of Stalin number of mens and womens in prisons
simultaneously never exceeded 2 millions 760 thousand
( It is not including German, Japanese and other POW).
Thus, about any \"tens millions in GULAG\" can not to speech.

In Germany in time of Nazi in prisons there was of 18 millions man; 11 millions was killed

To the end of 1999 in USA ( See: a site of a Bureau of legal statistics),
in prisons - 1.366.721 men,
In jails - 687.973 men
That in the sum gives 2.054.694. man
