Hi Jerry,
good summary. However, two comments are warranted. The painting of U995 was not histically correct. While Hempel (paint supplier) and HDW (painters) got the shades adequately right, paint supplied was intentionally too glossy (lasts longer). Paint on the WW2 boats was FLAT. Further wooden components of the deck, tower and wintergarden were not painted. Instead a black woodpreservative (something akin to creosote) was applied given the initial appearance of antracyte grey, but gradually turned into various shades of brown/darker and lighter grey though leaching by salt water and bleaching by sun.
BTW having talked to several survivors of same boat. Their answer to deck color ranged frrom black/brown to light wood color with a weathered grey look. Go, figure! The next guy to get his model\'s deck coloring just right should get a prize.
