Hello, folks!

I am building a 144 scale Type VII-D from the Revell kit. The one VII_D that strikes me as visually most attractive (according to Revell's paint instructions) is U217 when being a front boat. Revell calls for a stripe scheme in dust grey and bare metal. Now I, and some friends of mine from my club VMF-06, wonder if that is at all true! Well the grey might, but bare metal?
Any advice or even educated guess will help! Thank you!
(I finsished that scheme already and used Alclad "Steel". The scheme looks really cool, but is it at all true???)
TIA for your help!
