U-D3 and U-D5

Clay Blair, in Hitler's U-boat War says that the former Dutch O-21 class submarines U-D3 and U-D5 were converted to torpedo supply boats for their war patrols, carrying 8 spare torpedoes.

Does anyone know what the conversion entailed? For instance,

1. Where were the torpedoes carried? Deck cannisters? Belowdecks?

2. Were the external traversing tubes removed?
