The uranium oxide ore found in the u-234 was for real and not some madeup story. The total weight of the ore and the ten containers was560 kilos. The Germans were not close to build an atomic bomb but had progressed to the point of enrichening the uranium. Uranium oxide in it's natural state in inert, it only emitts gamma radiation when it has been somehow enriched as in some type of nuclear reactor. Neutron bombardment to enrich uranium is one thing getting it to detonate is another and Germany was a long way of from that. I bet the japs would have flown a plane ( German me-262 ? ) over California and do an air burst with this oxide causing a deadly radioactive cloud, there is no way to treat internal radioactive contamination.
