I have been researching the SS Carperby as well as my father's cousin was a DEMS gummer who was lost with the ship. From the posting I noticed how two DEMS Crew was removed from the ship on health grounds and from the time mentioned estimate that the ship was in Scotland at the time. As my father's cousin was from Glasgow I am wondering could he have one of the replacements or was the DEMS crew reduced by numbers before the ship set sail. It a thought floating around after reading the posting. If you can share any light it would be great.
