This was the ship my father Dennis Wilson just joined in Feb, 1942 as part of "DEMS" gunner crew.
He and one colleague contracted real 'flu, so were sent from the ship direct to hospital.
The vessel sailed without them and was torpedoed 2 weeks later.
Dennis knew nothing of this until some 6 months later he bumped into a former shipmate who went white as a sheet, thinking he was seeing a ghost since he knew Dennis had been allocated to the ship.
Dennis then found out she had gone down with all hands.
