Anti-escort device

<HTML>Hi all,

This may sound like an impractical idea, but was there ever any thought given to using mines as an anti-ecort device when a u-boat was being attacked by escorts? As ASDIC improved, escorts were better able to track a creeping u-boat. If that u-boat was getting \"pinged\" and knew the escorts were homing in, would it have been possible to release 4-6 mines (perhaps preloaded in a torpedo tube) to make it much more treacherous for the escorts as they lined up for their D/C runs? They certainly would not have been the active hunter that the gnat was, but their presence may have been able to disrupt the escorts enough to allow an escape.

I can think of a few reasons why this may not have been practical, but I wonder if it was ever considered.

Regards,

Tom

P.S. Birkenhead is still on my schedule. </HTML>
