The emblem could look like a rabbit from far away because the eagle's wings are spread up in the air and they look like rabbit ears. I can not find any period pictures of U878 or it's emblem. There are only hand drawn sketches so the eagle could have been confused with a rabbit. I wish I could post pictures of it but not sure how to. The emblem was owned by the same man in Virginia (near Norfolk) for over 30 years. He is extremely old and can't remember where he got it. I've been told by others that it could have possibly on the inside of the uboat and not on the conning tower. It is metal, about 3 feet long by 2 feet wide. I just don't know how to prove it's authenticity. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
