There must be something about this movie...
For the longest time I watched it weekly and now I watch it about once a month or so...good thing I have it in 3 versions...English Directors Cut, German widescreen Directors Cut, and the original 2 1/2 hours North American release format...this gives me a choice!
The success of the movie lies in solid character development (it is a movie about the people who served on the U-boats), an obviously convincing acting job by Jurgen and others, plus it did an excellent job showing the U-boat itself, the U-boat pens, and the unpredictable nature of the seas.
It is a classic!
