Herbert Laubert was Second and then First Watch Officer (IWO) on the famous U-125 from Jan 1941 to Nov 1942. He sailed on this boat during the Operation Drumbeat mission in Jan 1942.

He was transferred of U-125 six months before she was lost with all hands on 6 May 1943 (Niestlé, 1998). By then Laubert had taken command of the famous U-boat U-38.

Herbet Laubert was marked as the commander of the new type XXI boat U 3048 but that boat was never commissioned (Busch & Röll, 1998).
