Painting and finishing

Hi all, just about to embark on the paint job for a Robbe U47, painted as U48 ( Three Black Cats) can anyone recomend methods, paints, weathering etc I should use, Ive been told a laquer is also a good idea any ideas. Do I use car paint spray, or model spray

The big question is did it have two tone hull or not, Ive seen some B&W photos and it looks like its single grey with 308,000 painted on the side of the tower.
