U-Boat Decking

I have several questions reguarding the decking of U-boats (Type VII & IX).
The reason I need to know is that the type VII model made by Fine Art Models has a bright wood finish. This model I think would represent a new U-boat just launched etc.The model can be viewed @ the Fine Art Models web site.
Questions:
1. Is this correct?
2. If not what should it look like?
3. What did the deck components consist of (wood, metal, combo)?
4.Did the wood weather fast and turn black-gray from the ocean water?
5. Did the decks get painted or treated in any way?
Any help on this would be appreciated. I would someday like to purchase this boat, however if this is a gross oversite I need to know.
Many thanks to all who reply-Woody
