I know of no German built u-boat that carried a 4CM AA gun during WWII. I do not think that any of the various captured subs that the Germans used a 4cm AA gun either.
The use of the 3.7CM M/42 was due to the fact that the Army or Luftwaffe versions were very prone to salt water corrosion and were not pressure proof for use on submerging u-boats. They had too many stoppages so a marine version was produced ,the M/42.
