A aircraft attacking a uboat was instructed to have the radioman screw the key down, sending a continous signal, as the bombing run was underway. It should have been obvious the reason this was done. In the event the a/c was shot down, the Brits would have a fix on the position and they would make an effort to save the crew. If they could take a bearing, couldn't others realize this.
