In several movies (The Enemy Below” is one) I have seen a very large lever under the control room overhead thrown when changing between diving and surfacing. US submarines do not have an equivalent control in that form. It would almost seem to be the control for the main induction valve except they appear to use it while submerged which would flood the boat if the portrayal is accurate. What is it?
