Hello,
on 11.09.1939 the brit. carrier Ark Royal left Scapa for an anti-submarine-sweep. Which destroyers left as escorts with her? I have different informations, four to six are given in the different sources. For sure there were Faulknor, Foxhound & Firedrake and a fourth "F"-class destroyer of the 8th flotilla. In the action that took place on the 14th, U-39 was sunk by the first mentioned destroyers, in the meantime U-30 sunk the Fanad Head & in "Merchant Ship losses to axis submarines" there´s the information, that survivors were rescude by "Tartar". Was this destroyer an escort of the Ark Royal? Blair says there were 3 destroyers sent to the Fanad Head.
Thank you
Regards
Darius
