I have just visited the tomb of J.Collins in Zahara de los Atunes,Cádiz,Spain. He died as part of the crew of the Canadian Corvette Weyburn, hit by a German mine off Cape Espartel, near Gibraltar on 22nd February 1943. The tombstone mentions his wife Helen and son Anthony. He was 24 years old and after his name appear: Able seaman,R.N.P/IX.182689.
I have already written a book about shipwrecks off the NW Spanish coast of Galicia, mostly British, and I am now researching a similar subject on the Southern coast of Spain, from Gibraltar to Cádiz. I would be very grateful for any information on this ship and sailor.
My tel: 676830289.Postal Address: Calle Galón,1,2A.San Fernando-Cádiz.11100.SPAIN.
