27 November 1944 USS Atule Claim confirmed?

On 27 November 1944 the Atule claimed to torpedoed A Maru in the Phillippine Islands; Not credited on grounds of non confirmed. Yet in 1946 Postwar records of IJN Maru shipping lost ….

Could it have been thought to have been lost in the Yellow Sea..if that was where it was last seen/and ro known off? what if indeed it was in the Phillippine Islands...?
