<HTML>Fellows, a bit more study is required here. Germany didnot re-arm by stealing artwork. And just because there is a depression doesn't mean that there is no economy. Germany (pre-Hitler) was engaged in a secrect military build all along. Whenever the allied -arms inspectors arrived, armorments were loaded onto trains and moved around the country. In exchange for raw materials Germany built tanks and cannons for Russia, secretly retaining one out of every 20 tanks built etc. Germany trained russian Officiers and the Russians allowed the Germans to train pilots in Russia. Those pilots didn't just appear all at once out of nowhere.
Once in power Hitler engaged in an open re-armourment program. For the people - Das Volk- he established the auto industry with a layaway plan to finance the plant. Monthly deposits entitled you to volkswagen Nr.420 off the assembly line. Hitler ordered the building of the Autobahn- result mass employment and a place to drive you volkswagen (not to mention a way to rapidly move the tanks later.) Favourite industries like Krupp were encouraged to expand with government support and strikes were not tolerated. And of coarse Goring owned the largest conglomerate in Germany putting it together bit by bit and mostly yes by stealing it. Once on a war footing, all bets are off, everything goes to the war effort. Occupied countries resourses are exploited and nobody questions the Dictator where he getting the money from to spend. My 2 cents worth.</HTML>
