HMS Bicester & nuclear testing

<HTML>my uncle able seaman Freddie L Palmer served on HMS Eskimo and HMS Bicester during the 2nd world war coming through it unscathed,he however died in 1946 due to leukaemia at the age of 26.
I was in the process of researching his life/death when this fact came up,my father (his brother) blames his death on the Royal Navy due to HMS Bicester being involved in nuclear testing off Australia at the end of the war,sailors where told to stand on deck and observe the flash and subsequently any radiation. Can any one verify this for me or any history of the movements of HMS Bicester at the end of the war?</HTML>
