Hmm, I am not quite sure which Pope you are talking about, however there was a U.S.S. Pope in service as late as 1944, she was present at the capture of german U-boat Captain Werner Henke. If you are referring to another Pope, than that one might have sank earlier but I do know for sure there was a Pope in serivce during the years 1944 and 1945.
