Hi Pat,

I appreciate I'll probably be 10 years late here, but I've been researching Bellwort for several years. My grandfather, David Willcock, served on her.

I have the following regarding John Lynch:

CASUALTIES
Lynch, John J Able Seaman, RNVR D/MD/X2641 HMS Bellwort 30th March 1942, died

SOURCE: Naval-History.net, Casualty Lists of the Royal Navy and Dominion Navies during World War Two (Compiled by Don Kindell, Ed by Gordon Smith for naval-history.net)

Cross referenced to:

March 1942
Mon 30th BELLWORT was damaged by the premature detonation of a depth charge dropped on a doubtful A/S contact, and had subsequently to be towed to Takoradi. One fatal casualty resulted from the accident.

SOURCE: Naval-history.net, ‘West Africa Command, Freetown, April – December 1942’ Admiralty War Diaries of World War Two (Trans. D. Kindell)
Original data: TNA. Flag Officer in Charge, West Africa War Diary – April 1942. ADM 199/635.

Best regards
David
