Hello Jenny- my father served on the Bideford for some time following his call up in late 1940.After she was damaged at Dunkirk The ship was employed on Atlantic convoys to Freetown, Newfoundland , Iceland etc. and then later was seconded to a U boat force in the Mediterranean. In 1943 she was damaged by a flying bomb off the Azores and I think that is when my father left her for another ship.
A few years ago I visited the Maritime Museum in Appledore , Devon. They had a file full of stuff on the ship including some photos . My father was the subject of one of them so as you can imagine it was quite a moving moment. We swapped emails etc. and I was able to send them copies of photos that I have have, but if you are ever down that way it is well worth calling in.
