<HTML>Hello all,
As part of my research into a family member's experiences as a Merchant Seaman Captain during WW1 I have photostat copies of the log of U44 for the 27 March l9l6 to learn of the action which sank my relative's vessel MANCHESTER ENGINEER I' I have had it translated from the German, but because of the specialised nature of the document, it requires a little clarification in places and I should be glad of any help from the Forum. When the log translation reads;Bow shot fired;strike v 30,would that refer to a torpedo or a shot from the deck gun,and to what does the v 30 refer? The entry by Paul Wagenfuhr goes on to mention a patrol vessel with two funnels coming alongside the stricken steamer, Does anyone have a name or further details of this ship?

Thanks in advance
Ray</HTML>
