Hello,
Researching a Merchant Marine captain, I came across a story that he had served on an American 4-Masted Bark named the Manga Reva (ex Pyrenees).
The final fate of the vessel was decribed as "at the outbreak of World War I she was returned to service carrying wartime cargoes of grain and case oil to ports in Europe and Africa. On November 19,1916, on a voyage from London to Hampton Roads, Virginia, Manga Reva reported by wireless that she was sinking at position 47 degrees North, 14 degrees West. Although never confirmed the official report indicates she was sunk by a German submarine."
This would have placed her about 450 miles southwest of Plymouth. I didn't see her listed in the ships hit section for this time period, or mentioned previously in the forum.
Any ideas if the story is true, and if so, which U-boat may have been involved?
Best Regards,
Eric Stone
