WW1 British destroyers

Is there any truth to the fact that during WW1,when a new British
destroyer was commissioned,a "Kisbie Ring" (life preserver) was given to the Captain in the belief that the ring would bring the ship good luck when it went to sea looking for German U-Boats.?
Supposedly this ring was near the quarterdeck when in port and stowed away when at sea. Others were secured topside just in case.
The "Kisbie Ring" was invented by Thomas Kisbie about 1850 while serving in the British Navy.
He also invented the "Breeches Buoy"
I will be most grateful for any information.
