Got it,
it was light-cruiser USS "Chester" (CL-1), which was on her way to Plymouth after leaving convoy H.G. 102.
Reported position was 49°12'N-05°37'W which is about 48 miles SSW of Lizard Head, time of first sighting was 01:04 a.m. G.M.T.
U 53's time and position for torpedo-attack: 03:09h in square 2534 O which is about 39 miles SSW of Lizard Head.
"Chester" dropped 4 d.c.'s altogether set for 150 feet, torpedo passed close along the port side. Afterwards it was found, that the port paravane was damaged "apparently from a very heavy blow".

PS: von Schrader would have become famous if only he succeeded in hitting "Olympic" on 04.09. and "Chester" on 05.09. !!!
